The Vocal Ensemble incantanti

Stirring, young, ambitious - three attributes which perfectly apply to the Vocal Ensemble incantanti. With its enchanting vocal characteristics, the youth choir enthrals listeners at home and abroad.

As a renowned cultural ambassador of the Grisons, the incantanti Vocal Ensemble interprets songs in all the Grisonian cantonal languages, with special emphasis on Romansh songs.

Under the leadership of Christian Klucker, the choir, which has received multiple international awards, combines traditional works with seminal new interpretations and thereby often manages to shift the boundaries of the genre. The choir is open to singers between 15 and 25 years of age. It offers professional qualification and unique experiences in Switzerland and abroad.

If you are between 15 and 25 years old and have a passion for choral singing, attend one of our upcoming choir practices.

The incantanti Vocal Ensemble is a youth choir which is open to enthusiastic singers between 15 and 25 years of age. In our choir, you are in the centre of interest. We offer professional qualification, individually tailored to your needs. You will benefit from individual coaching and from working with well-known professionals. Furthermore, you will be able to learn a great deal about choral literature as well as delve into the specific Grisonian culture. We often travel to competitions and concerts at home and abroad. We thus promote you on your way to independence. You will get to know foreign cultures, collect memorable experiences and form friendships for life.

We ensure the compatibility of your choir commitments with those of your school, studies or job by practicing on two Friday evenings and Saturdays per month followed by a relaxed dinner and get-together. To consolidate the mastery of the actual concert program, we organize at least one camp of several days' duration per year.

It is the endeavour of our youth choir to keep up with the best competitors in the world of choirs. To reach this goal, the full dedication and commitment of each member of the choir is vital. The basis for this is set by dependability regarding practice attendance and singing lessons. Furthermore, you will be expected to prepare the choir literature independently between practice sessions. In this, we will actively support you, especially in the beginning. Since we increasingly participate in competitions, a fair portion of ambition and perfectionism comes in handy. Nonetheless, the foundation of our choir is based in the joy of singing in a motivated, well-adjusted team. With us, you can learn to sing with any type of voice.

Christian Klucker

Conductor und artistic director

Christian Klucker has been involved for years in the cultivation, development and dissemination of the culture of his home Canton of Grisons. He has been promoting a dedicated exchange between Grisonian and national as well as international culture. Apart from his musical expertise, he nurtures a passion for nature, especially mountaineering and hunting.

Christian studied clarinet and song. During his education as school musician, he attended conductor training with Howard Griffith. In various master courses as well as in private instruction, he developed his skills as choir and orchestra director with artists such as Kirk Trevor (New York, USA), Florian Heyerick (Gent, BEL), Cornelia Lämmli (Tennessee, USA), Karl Scheuber (Zurich), Catrine Fender (Colmar, FRA) und Beat Schäfer (Zurich). Christian has been a teacher of music at the Bündner Kantonsschule in Chur, Canton of Grisons since 1994, where he directed the school choir for 22 years. In 2002 he founded the incantanti Vocal Ensemble, which he has been directing ever since. Under his leadership, incantanti were awarded numerous prizes. By now, Christian passes on his expertise nationally and internationally as a coach, course director and supervisor for various choirs. Christian is looking forward to being contacted by you.

Beat Schäfer

Coach

Before Beat became a teacher of music at Kantonsschule Hohe Promenade in Zurich, he studied piano and school music. He also worked as a primary school teacher and as a cantor. In 1983, he founded a cantor's house with several choirs with integrated singing school. In 1994, he assumed a professorship for choral conducting at the Zurich Conservatory. From 2008 to 2020, he directed the department of choral conducting, organ and church music at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (Zurich University of the Arts) ZHdK. Until 2023, for 16 years, he directed Neuer Zürcher Kammerchor.

With incantanti, Beat directs singing camps/weeks, open singing events and various courses. Beats concerts offer a broadly based repertoire of styles. In addition, Beat works as a Coach and Juror both nationally and internationally.

Livia Cuypers

Voice Coach

Livia has had a long-standing fascination with music and sound. With her degree in speech therapy and a certificate from the Lichtenberg Institute of Applied Vocal Physiology, she has established herself professionally as a voice coach. Her passion has become her profession: For more than twenty years, Livia has been accompanying voice patients as well as persons who wish to develop their (unimpaired) voice to maximal capacity.

Her cooperation with incantanti Vocal Ensemble has existed since 2009. Livia has been supporting the youth choir with her voice coaching sessions during practices, offering individual and group lessons. Her singing lessons enable the singers to familiarize themselves with their own voices and to use them to maximum effect.
